In 2017, a total of 20,474 complaints were car-related, jumping 34.4 percent compared with the previous year, according to data released by the China Consumers Association.
Out of the total car complaints, 19,348 complaints were dealt with, accounting for 94.5 percent of the total volume. 65.32 percent of the total car-related complaints were against private sedans and 25.77 percent were against auto parts.
In regard to the complaint contents, complaints about the aftersales service, the contract and the quality covered a large proportion of all car-related complaints with a respective 30.59 percent, 22.19 percent and 20.4 percent. Main problems include false propaganda, counterfeit and personal dignity offense.
In terms of the complaint time, the complaints in the second half of the year are relatively more than those of the first half. Even though September is the peak season for vehicle sales, it is also the month which saw the most complaints. The complaints in September took up 18.2 percent of the annual complaints.
In terms of brand, there were 850 complaints against Changan Ford, the most among all automakers while FAW VW and SAIC VW were the second and the third with a respective sales volume of 806 and 702. Last year, the association also received 450 complaints about Geely.
