China's PV wholesale volume in February slid 16.9% from the previous year to 1,207,538 units, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). The PVs mentioned here refer to sedans, SUVs and MPVs locally produced in China, while the three major sectors all posted year-on-year (YoY) negative growth in Feb. sales.
By the end of February, the PV wholesale volume for the world's largest auto market has totaled 3,229,516 units in 2019, 16.7% less than that of a year ago.
According to the data published by the China Automobile Dealers Association (CADA), the VIA (Vehicle Inventory Alert Index) in February was 63.6%, a month-on-month increase of 4.7 percentage points and a year-on-year growth of 11.3 percentage points, which was still above the warning line. By the end of February, China's VIA has been exceeding an official warning threshold for 14 consecutive months.
There are seven sedan models among the 10 top PV models by Feb. wholesale volume. The Lavida took the championship with its sales jumping 33.2% from a year ago to 33,900 units. As the only MPV model included the top 10 list, the Hongguang witnessed its sales plunge 42.8% from the previous year. Regarding the sales growth, only four models gained rising performance.
The sedan wholesale volume fell 13.3% year on year to 585,251 units in February and shrank 13.5% to 1,586,467 units for the first two months.
The Lavida was crowned the best-selling sedan model in February with its sales growing to 33,900 units, 10,347 units more than that of the runner-up Sylphy. The top four sedan models by Feb. sales all obtained YoY growth, while the fifth to the eighth models all posted YoY decrease.
Besides, the Emgrand and the Roewe i5 were the only two China-owned models included the top 10 sedan list, ranking sixth and ninth respectively.
The wholesale volume of SUV sector dropped 18.3% from the previous year to 536,938 units in February and declined 18.0% to 1,430,010 units for the first two months.
Among the top 10 SUV models by Feb. sales, the Haval H6 was the only one that had a sales volume exceeding 20,000 units. It is noteworthy that Changan Automobile got three models included the top 10 list, namely, the Changan CS75, the CS55 and the CS35. In addition, China-owned models occupied 7 places on the list, which was quite rare compared with previous days.
