According to the Tire Division of China Rubber Industry Association, affected by the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations of the US against the semi-steel tires from China, over the past few years, China’s export of semi-steel tires to the US dropped sharply.
Statistics show that in 2015 and the first half of 2016, China’s exports of semi-steel tires to the US both dropped over 30%.
On the other than, in the first half of this year, China’s export of all-steel tires to the US grew 6.7%.
Shi Yifeng, secretary general of the Tire Division of China Rubber Industry Association, said it is because the impacts of the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations by the US against all-steel tires from China haven’t been felt.
Given the exports of semi-steel tire exports over the past few years, He predicts that in the coming years, China’s all-steel tire export to the US is unpromising.
All-steel tires are generally used by commercial vehicles, therefore, the market demand for such products reflects the economy of a country; while semi-steel tires are used by passenger cars, reflecting the demands of auto consumers.
China’s semi-steel tire export could be transferred to the Europe and other countries and regions with developed auto industry; while the US is currently the largest all-steel tire consumer, the export can hardly be transferred to other regions.
Statistics show that China’s exports of all-steel tires to the US are more than double the volume of semi-steel tire exports.
Accordingly, the impacts of the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations by the US against all-steel tires from China will be much greater than those of semi-steel tires.
The US Department of Commerce disclosed the preliminary ruling concerning the anti-dumping proceeding against truck and bus tires from China, deciding that China had dumped relevant tires in the US market and there were emergent situations.
Once the US takes anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures against all-steel tires from China, its impacts on China’s tire industry will be fatal.
If Chinese companies cannot “go abroad” as soon as quickly, the sales of China’s all-steel tires will dwindle and may even be confined to the domestic market.
