China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently released an upgraded version of the access rules for the tire industry, and plans to implement since October 1 2014.

The new rules specifically add standards to encourage“green” tires, and stricter requirements on energy consumption and emission control are written in the rules for the whole tire industry.

The rules encourage tire manufactures setting up their own research centre, and taking self-owned Intellectual Property technology into new/expansion projects.

On energy and resource consumption, the new rules requires that the new tire manufactures should consume no more than 70,000 tons of water to produce every ton of tires, and existed tire makers should be no more than 80,000 tons.

Newly built-up tire manufactures should satisfy following rubber consumption requirements: 1、every ton of radial tires for heavy-duty truck produced should use no more than 0.53 tons of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), no more than 0.45 tons of EPDM for light-duty truck and sedan tires, no more than 0.49 tons for engine machines’ tires.

Existed tire manufactures should consume less than 0.54 tons of EPDM for heavy-duty truck tires, less than 0.46 tons for light-heavy truck and sedan tires, less than 0.51 tons for engine machine tires.

On disposal rate of water and solid and industrial solid wastes, newly built companies are required to reach more than 95% and 97% respectively. And exited tire makers should be more than 90% and 95% individually.
