New policies introduced to protect consumers of directly imported automobiles

One of the major issues with directly importing automobiles to China without going through a certified dealership has been a lack of government policies regarding repair, replacement and refund warranty services. In response to this, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine's Defective Product Administrative Center, China-Europe Association for Technical and Economic Cooperation and People's Insurance Company of China jointly released a new announcement protecting consumers of directly imported automobiles. According to the announcement, consumers can send a direct report to AQSIQ. This marks the first time that consumers of these vehicles have received protection in the form of official legislation.

According to the announcement, AQSIQ will establish a information management system for automobiles directly imported until the end of 2015. CEATEC will help organize dealerships that directly import vehicles, while PICC will help facilitate repair, replacement and refund services after sales services for said vehicles.

Automotive Analyst Zhang Zhiyong explains that these new policies will help boost consumer confidence and potentially boost the development of the import automobile market. Direct import vehicles are often cheaper than those imported by certified dealerships, offering savings of up to 20%.
