EU launches anti-subsidy investigation against tires from China

The European Commission announced Oct. 14 to launch anti-subsidy investigation against truck and bus tires imported from China.

The target tire models are new or retreaded inflated rubber tires with load index above 121.

The investigated period was from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017; while the period of injury investigation was from Jan. 1, 2014 to June 30, 2017.

The investigation was proposed by the Coalition against Unfair Tyres Imports, EU new and retreaded truck and bus producers in the coalition have produced over 45% of EU’s total output.

According to relevant rules of EU, the investigation should be completed within 13 months from the release date of the register notice.

EC had launched anti-dumping investigation against Chinese new and treaded truck and bus tires on Aug. 11, and the investigation was proposed by CUTI on June 30.

Chinese tire producers including Aeolus Tyre Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co., Ltd., and Qingdao Fullrun Tyre Co., Ltd. have all been mentioned in the investigation application.

EU statistics show that in 2013-2016, the average Chinese tire price decreased from 2,820 euros/ton to 2,200 euros/ton, while the import volume almost doubled.

Increasing market occupation and low product prices made EU tire producers particularly concerned about Chinese tires.
