2017 was a crucial year for the establishment of China’s environmental protection mechanism, while environmental protection transformed from words to actions.
Massive chemical enterprises were closed down throughout this year.
Hebei province penalizes hazardous chemical companies
Hebei province inspected 6,736 hazardous chemical companies, discovered 7,475 issues, and fined 14.48 million yuan in 2017.
Local government closed down 642 companies, asked 400 companies to suspend production for rectification, and revoked and seized 46 companies’ licenses.
Hebei province will involve comprehensive regulation of hazardous chemicals in its annual safe production check and urge relevant authorities to formulate lists of rights and responsibilities.
Localities of Jiangsu province take actions
Nanjing city closed down 61 chemical companies, Changzhou city closed down 315, Nantong closed down 122, and Suqian closed down 33 companies in 2017.
In addition, Nanjing aims to rectify 42 casting factories, reduce shipbuilding capacity of 200,000 DWT, and close down 40 chemical companies.
Henan province launches various inspections
Henan province inspected 15,391 hazardous chemical businesses, identified 27,094 hidden risks, and 25,335 risks were rectified in 2017.
The province’s safety supervision authorities sent out 1,679 law-enforcement and inspection teams to check 12,461 companies, among which 800 were ordered to suspend production for rectification, licenses of 185 companies were revoked or seized, 529 companies were closed down, and 59 companies were involved in a black list. The penalties totaled 2.99 million yuan.
Henan also checked the production safety of special-purpose equipment and their quality.
Relevant authorities inspected 1,624 companies, discovered 574 issues, and solved all the problems.
During the move, 207 licensed qualified companies were punished, 45 companies were ordered to rectify their hidden risks, and 13 hazardous chemical producers were suggested to deregister their licenses.
The province also paid attention to transportation safety of hazardous chemicals in 2017.
Local authorities inspected 13,271 transporters and issued 5,551 notifications of rectification.
Among them, 4,112 transporters were ordered to suspend business for rectification, licenses of 950 transporters were revoked, and 2,563 transporters were fined for 9.58 million yuan.
