37 auto enterprises in China failed the audit of fuel oil consumption

Recently, China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released official report for average fuel consumption of passenger car enterprises in 2014, which shows fuel consumption status is optimistic overall but potential for improvement.

The third stage fuel oil consumption standard of 6.9L per 100 kilometers for passenger cars had been carried out in Jan. 1st, 2015 and the average consumption will be reduced to 5L per 100 kilometers in 2020. It is a protracted war for auto enterprises to reduce average fuel oil consumption and they might be punished due to unqualified under the strict supervision.

In accordance with the report from MIIT, there were total 120 passenger car enterprises declaring average fuel oil consumptions including 91 domestic and 29 foreign, among which 37 enterprises didn't reach the standard. In 2013, there were 111 passenger car enterprises declaring including 40 failed, which meant the qualified rate increased YoY.

And the result of joint venture auto brands is better than self-owned brands of domestic enterprises. Among foreign auto enterprises, the results of Japanese and American models are not as good as German and Korean. What's worthy noticing was the higher fuel oil consumption of luxury cars than standard such as Ferrari, McLaren and Lotus etc.

Mr. Cui, the secretary-general of China Passenger Car Association, said the performance of fuel oil consumption of passenger car enterprises in 2014 was satisfied because the sales volumes of 37 unqualified small and medium auto enterprises were few and it was not difficult for most of enterprises to reach the standard this year. He also pointed out the target of average fuel consumption in 2014 was 103% of 7.52L and the actual data was 7.22L, which meant overfulfilment.
