Xu Pei, member of the standing committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of Chongqing municipality and the chairman of Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) of Chongqing municipality, lately puts forward strengthening the re-cycle of junked tires to facilitate the transformation and upgrade of Chongqing’s automotive industry chain.
Encouraging enterprises dealing with junked tires with new technologies will solve the pollution problem and walk a new way for the southwest Chinese municipality’s automotive industry.
Junked tires are heat, mechanical-resistant and are difficult to degrade. Long term exposure of junked tires takes large area of lands and is prone to fire and underground water pollution.
Statistics released by TSU in Chongqing show that eight million junked tires, or 24,000 tonnes, were generated in the city in 2014 and the figure will exceed 10 million by the end of 2015.
But all the junked tires were poorly handled.
Currently, mature technologies in dealing with junked tires have been widely applied in Beijing, Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province. Utilization of junked tires will actually create considerable value.
Economic value of about 800 million to one billion yuan will be generated a year by recycling the 24,000 tonnes junked tires in Chongqing, said Xu.
