The first results of China’s green tire rating authentication (C-GTRA) were released on June 2 in Tianjin.
It was China’s first voluntary GTRA program for vehicles, which was operated by CAQC Certification Inc. with Tianjin Automotive Test Center conducting the tests.
Early Bird is the Good Bird?
The automobile GTRA program has been recognized and supported by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CAAC) and is announced in the name of CAAC.
However, the news provoked widely debate and discussion in China’s tire industry.
The reason is there are two other authorities mulling over standard systems related to“green tires”.
One is the National Technical Committee for Tire and Rim, the other is China Rubber Industry Association (CRIA).
CRIA has released the samples for tire labels and discussed the Drafted Standards for Tire Label Rating.
Although there are no such words as “green tire”, the tire labeling mechanism is an internationally recognized green tire standard system.
An industry insider said when China’s tire industry had emphasized that there would be only one standard of implementation when the representatives talked about green tire with ETRMA.
The present situation is that CAAC’s green tire certification standards have been released, while the other two made a lot of preparations and are to release their green tire standards soon.
Is China to release three green tire standards?
An authorized organ should stand out and coordinate the situation, but who it would be?
Dilemma of Companies
Hangzhong Zhongce Rubber, Wanli Tire, and Linglong Tyre have participated in the first green tire certification program.
At the press release, the three all believed that the certification would promote and benefit the market.
But they also said if the certification is given to one model of one tire brand, it is unrealistic and costly to have all models from all brands certified.
Most tire companies own a number of brands with different serieses and models.
All the three organizations are authorative, which one is better? Many tire companies have the same question.
Once the three have their green tire standards released, China’s tire companies will fell into dilemma.
