The Government of Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh has joined the ANRPCtaking the membership of the intergovernmental body to 12. Though Bangladesh currently produces only 19,000 tonnes of natural rubber in a year, the country has tremendous potential to expand the cultivation, increase the average yield per hectare and improve the quality of the produce.
On behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, Mohammed Abdul Quadir, Chairman of the Bangladesh Rubber Board and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forest, signed the Instrument and Accession. The 40th Session of the ANRPC Assembly, held in Ho Chi Minh City on October 24 and 27, 2017 extended a warm welcome to Bangladesh.
The organization which was established in 1970, has added four members over the past 10 years. China, Cambodia and Philippines had joined ANRPC in 2007, 2009 and 2010 respectively. Two more NR producing countries are in the process of joining.
