Shanghai government formulates rules for shared bikes

Shanghai Municipal Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision has formulated a consultation paper for group standards of shared bikes, stipulating that shared bikes in Shanghai have to be installed with solid tires.

Shanghai has completed the constitution of three group standards concerning service regulation and technologies of shared bikes.

These standards have made requests for specific parts of shared bikes, including the lockset, tire, and wheel.

Shared bikes placed in Shanghai have to use solid tires and to be with such functions as satellite positioning and Internet connectivity.

Statistics show that there are more than 450,000 shared bikes in Shanghai with 4.5 million registered users, yet the damage rate of the bikes has been high.

Solid tires are anti-puncturing with longer lives. To prevent flat tire, human damage, and other safety issues, the application of solid tires is particularly necessary.

With respect to the quality features of shared bikes, Shanghai also requests the shared bikes to be scraped in three years and be maintained timely.

Shanghai expects to guide and regulate the market behavior of shared bike service providers on the basis of the group standards.
