Michelin leads online tire sales in March

The market share of Michelin tires grew 2.08 percent to 14.3 percent in March to become the top tire brand on the online market in China, according to the latest statistics from Tuhu.cn.

Dunlop, with a 11.5-percent market share, rose 0.42 percent to the second place, followed by Goodyear with a share of 11.4 percent.

Males accounted for some 94 percent of the consumers of online tires in March, the statistics showed.

Only nine percent of the tires sold online were higher than 800 yuan each in March, compared to the 30 percent in February.

In March, tires of 300-800 yuan each took up 70 percent of the online sales, while those of 800-1,000 yuan each only contributed 5 percent, down 21 percentage points from February.

In March, tire specification 205/55R16 became the best seller of Michelin, Dunlop and Continental.

Continental and Giti Tire took the fourth and fifth place, respectively, with a respective market share of 10 percent and 9.9 percent in the total online tire sales in March.

Among the top five brands of online tire sales, Giti Tire saw 81 percent of its consumer comments were favorable, higher than the other four brands.

The major consumers of online tire sales came from Shanghai, Guangdong and Jiangsu in March.
