Qiao Faxing, head of the planning and development department of Shandong Petroleum & Chemical Industry Association, said the province will work out a green chemical assessment mechanism for projects entering chemical industry parks, and the “green assessment” will be of higher priority than environmental impact assessment, security assessment and energy technology assessment.
As a chemical product, tire project needs to pass the assessment before entering chemical industry parks.
“Green assessment” means to transform non-toxic raw materials to environmentally friendly products safely and efficiently.
In addition, the new projects’ impacts on surrounding environment, co-related enterprises and existing equipment will be examined.
When a project application is submitted, the management commissions will conduct an initial review, and small projects with outdated technology will not be allowed to enter the chemical industry parks.
The move will further promote tire products produced in Shandong catching up with the standards for “green tires”.
A senior practitioner said green tire will be a product of the age, as more consumers use green tires, some tire manufacturers with high costs and energy consumption will be restructured or merged.
