Shanghai International Automobile City delivers strategic planning

On January 21, at 2018 China EV100 Forum, Rong Wenwei, general-manager of Shanghai International Automobile City (SIAC) made a speech about SIAC's strategic planning in intelligent-connected vehicle area.

In 2016, Chinese government authorized SIAC to establish a demonstration zone for testing intelligent-connected vehicles. In the same year, it opened a 2-square-kilometer closed zone for autonomous vehicle tests.

According to Rong Wenwei, SIAC has set up a world-class connected vehicle testing zone equipped with traffic signal system, speed limit signs and LTE-V system. At present, the group has already owned 4 sets of high-precision maps.

The closed testing zone started operation since June, 2016. Up to now, it has received around 500 times of vehicle testing from many companies. Then, the public testing field was put into operation soon. Covering an area of around 12 square kilometers, there are 6 traffic light intersections on public testing roads and some traffic lights have worked for over three months. Besides, another batch of intersections has been under constructions which are expected to be completed until March this year. The group plans to expand the public testing area into around 27 square meters, covering 60 traffic light intersections by the end of this year.

In addition, SIAC collaborates with many enterprises and governmental departments to build a scenario bank of intelligent-connected vehicle. This project is called “Kunlun Plan”. Presently, the bank has collected over 4000 scenarios which provide abundant materials for intelligent-connected vehicles' R&D.

In the meantime, the group also sets up a number of vehicle platforms. For instance, the sharing-vehicle platform EVCARD has already owned over 26,000 electric vehicles (EV). The platform collects data from those EVs and then provides the data for the enterprise who takes tests.

SIAC is an automobile production base in Shanghai Municipality. With more than 30,000 staffs, its scope of business extends to cover such areas as vehicle R&D, manufacturing, trade and exhibition, etc. Especially, SAIC-VW is located here.
