EU to launch anti-dumping probe against tires from China

Foreign media report says that a few weeks ago, some tire producers in the European Union applied to European Commission to launch anti-dumping probe against truck and bus tires imported from China.

According to Eurostat, in 2013-2016, average price of tires imported from China dropped from 2,820 euros/ton to 2,200 euros/ton, while the import volume almost doubled.

It is unclear which EU producer submitted the application, but Chinese tire producers, including Aeolus Tyre, Zhongce Rubber, and Qingdao Fulun Science & Technology, were named in the application.

Currently, European Commission is considering the probe, which might begin this month if relevant authority keeps it on file.

According to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs, China’s exports of truck and bus tires to EU grew 6.8% and 12.1%, respectively, year on year in 2015 and 2016, not doubled as the complainant had said.

Over the past few years, China’s tire industry experienced flourish development, many tire producers went to exploit overseas market with price advantages.

In 2009, then U.S. president Obama decided to impose restrictive tariff on passenger car and light truck tires imported from China for three consecutive years.

After that, EU, Australia, India, Egypt, Columbia, Brazil, and Eurasian Economic Commission launched anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations against tires and relevant products imported from China in succession.
