China will boost the establishment of an integrated R&D mechanism for intelligent new energy vehicles (NEV), and is also mulling over a national platform company focusing on innovation development, according to officials at the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
Sources revealed that China will form a strategic system covering technological innovation, industrial ecology, regulations and standards, product supervision and information security for the development of intelligent NEVs. In the future, a national platform company focusing on intelligent innovation development is likely to be set up to boost the R&D of intelligent NEVs' infrastructure standards and technology rules.
The government has been propping up the R&D of intelligent NEVs. In January, the NDRC approved the establishment of nine research centers engaging in a slew of fields, such as key NEV parts, intelligent connectivity and battery recycling.
Apart from national support, local governments have also provided substantial support for intelligent NEVs. 15 provinces and cities, including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangdong Province and Helongjiang Province have issued NEV subsidy and incentive policies this year. These beneficial moves have further boost the development of NEVs.
Meng Wei, spokesman of the NDRC said that China needs to strengthen the responsibility sense of car manufacturers as well as the monitoring and supervision of governments, as NEV market has shown signs of blind development and investment. Government is responsible for regulating and guiding the investments in the market, enhancing technology innovation and corporate cooperation, in order to protect NEV from blind and disordered development.
