Tyre manufacturer Continental will install a 6.1MW rooftop PV system at its factory in Hefei, China.
The German company said the array expected to be operational before the end of the year.
The project is being carried out in partnership with HeFei SuMeiDa Sungrow Power, inverter manufacturer and project developer.
“With the pioneering solar photovoltaic power station initiative at the tire manufacturing facility in Hefei, Continental shows again its commitment to saving energy not only with eco-friendly products, but also in the daily operations,” said Dr. Ralf Cramer, CEO, Continental China.
Sungrow and Continental have agreed on a preliminary design and have their respective project teams in place to allow work to commence immediately.
The Hefei plant is Continental’s first in China and employs 900 people.
China is currently seeking to boost its distributed generation solar projects with a number of policy tweeks announced in the summer in an effort to boost rollout in the second half of the year.
