Tesla considers made-in-China

After entering in Chinese auto market for one year, Tesla still keeps trying to increase its sales volume. In the ceremony of delivering Model S P85D to Chinese customers yesterday, Mr. Zhu, the general manager of Tesla China, said to reporter that Tesla would begin localized operation by purchasing Chinese components.

As the latest model of Tesla, P85D is the 1st electric sports car equipped with 2 generators, whose total power reaches 515KW, higher the data of FF sports car of Ferrari with V12 engine.

In Apr. 2014, 1st batch of Chinese customers got the keys of Model S from the CEO of Tesla, Mr. Musk. According to the forecast of Tesla, the sales volume of this model in China should occupy 30% to 35% of total sales volume in the world. In fact, the output of Tesla in 2014 was 35,000 and the sales volume was 31,700. The sales volume of North America was 17,400, occupying 55%; 9,500 & 30% was for Europe and 4,750 & 15% was for Asia. The sales volume of Tesla in China was over 4,000 last year but the cars registered were only 2,499.

At present, Tesla imports finished automobile into China. Mr. Must used to say that it was not cost-effective to purchase Chinese components and delivery them to America due to freight and tax. But Tesla begins localized operation because of charging and price issues.
