In June 12, Shanghai General Motors released an announcement that it would change its official name, including all of its subsidiaries’, to “SAIC General Motors.” This officially confirms the previous rumors about its name alteration.
It is said by some reporters that Shanghai GM would change its name to SAIC GM in July first, as an ambiguous respond to which Shanghai GM said that there was no authorized notice confirming the name alteration. Other reporters stated that some joint ventures of SAIC Group, whose names begin with Shanghai, would change the “Shanghai” into “SAIC”. And Shanghai VW and Shanghai GM were especially mentioned in the reports. Accordingly, these two companies would change their name to “SAIC VW” and “SAIC GM”.
In addition, a report, which was previously defined as fake news, said that the name alteration was planned to be released in February and it was put off by some issues.
This name alteration will produce quite an influence on SAIC GM and other brands of SAIC Group.
