While almost all the EV models in Chinese auto market have fought to lower selling price, Tesla raises its EV selling price by 5%. Tesla announces that the enterprise will from now on raise the selling price range of Tesla Model S by 5 percent from original 685,000 yuan to 953,000 yuan to the new higher range of 718,800 yuan to 1,000,000 yuan.
The reason behind Tesla’s awkward movement is that the enterprise cannot earn the government subsidy to lower the price, which becomes the price edge of Chinese brands EV models. Tesla has done tenuous work in establishing EV charging stations in almost all the hot areas which are most frequently visited in China and setting up experience centers in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu and other big cities. However, the enterprises sales still are hindered by excluded from enjoying EV subsidy.
As Tesla broke into Chinese market last year with high profile in 2014, it sold 2,500 vehicles according to the newly registered license plates in China last year while the annual target assigned by the company’s central office was actually 10,000 units.
A few days ago, BWM announced that the company’s EV models BMW i3 had gained the government subsidy in China, which amounted to that consumers of the model can enjoy 50,000 yuan discounts for the exemption of purchase tax of the same amount of money. It opened the history of imported models enjoying Chinese EV subsidy from government. But Tesla didn’t get the same luck.
