Five Chinese Firms Intend to Build Tire Plants in Indonesia

The governor of South Sumatra met five Chinese companies' leaders to discuss relevant issue concerning establishing tire plants there.

To attract investment, Indonesia plans to build a port and a special economic zone in Tanjung Api-Api, South Sumatra.

The port and special economic zone will start operation no later than 2018.

South Sumatra is one of Indonesia's major natural rubber producing areas, local government expects investors to build new tire factories there.

Investors from China, Republic of Korea, Japan and India are interested in the investment.

To development downstream industries of rubber, local government has to make efforts to ensure the success of the port.

Over the past two years, the region's economic growth has been stagnated due to low natural rubber price.

Indonesia tire producer Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian set up a plant in South Sumatra in 1980, but it then moved the production base to Java.
