Mesnac, the Chinese tyre factory and systems specialist, reports that it is continuing to support the development of international standards for RFID tyre tags – a technology the company has been investing in for more than a decade already. To this end, Mesnac representatives recently spoke at an ETRO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization) summit on the subject. ETRO held its meeting in July 2016 in Brussels, Belgium.
The working group was convened by Dong Lanfei, engineer in Mesnac’s Internet of Things business unit, and co-convened by Pierre Loiret, manager of standards and regulations at Michelin (a firm that has led the way in the sector, with patented methods of RFID curing behind it). Other participants in the work group include Pirelli.
The attendees discussed four proposed standards, covering RFID tyre tags; methods of embedding tags; testing methods; and coding.
The kick-off meeting was supported by the National Technical Committee 19 on Tyres and Rims of Standardization Administration of China; The European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization; and the Association Française de Normalization.
The four standards were originally filed for application in June 2015, and group on ISO/TC31 Working Group 10 was formed in October 2015. The second meeting of the work group is to be held in December 2016.
The next stage for the group would be to move to the “committee draft” stage, to draft the standards currently being proposed.
